You have probably heard how Scandinavian people are well-talented in FPS games, especially in CS:GO. We don’t know if it’s in the weather or not but Swedish players have a big fame when it comes to CS:GO esports.

Without any doubt, Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer Gustafsson is counted as not only the best Swedish player but also one of the best CS:GO players of all time. Thanks to his legendary boosting moment in the Dreamhack Winter 2014 Quarterfinals, we also know him as “boostmeister”.

Early life

He was born on January 31, 1992 in Tyresö, Sweden. As a child, he was interested in football but unfortunately, he stopped playing when he sustained a knee injury at the age of fifteen.

After changing his hobbies into games, he discovered his talent for FPS games, such as Counter-Strike. After playing Counter-Strike for a couple of years, release of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive brought him a very big chance to start his professional career in esports.

He was a part of H2k in his early years in 2012. His teammates in H2k were Joel "emilio" Mako, André "keiz" Carlsson, John "wenton" Eriksson, and Hugo "huggan" Lopez. Not long after, he became a part of the Belgian esports organisation Absolute Legends. The roster showed great performance in ESL Major Series One - Spring 2013 by losing against Fnatic in Semifinals.

His first big step in his career was being a part of LGB eSports. There, olofmeister joined a lot of important tournaments for CS:GO esports and found a place to show himself more in the global arena.

The team took part in Fragbite Masters Season 1 in 2013. Even though the team was eliminated in the Semifinals, olofmeister’s performance in the Quarterfinals against Astana Dragons was pretty good. He had a 63-55 Kill-Death rate and made a 1.06 rating.

Another big stage for olofmeister to prove himself was in ESL Major Series One Katowice 2014. Completing their group as unbeaten, they came together with Fnatic in the Quarterfinals. Olofmeister got the highest rating on his team by 1.12 and made a 68-56 K-D rate. Once again, the team qualified for the Semifinals but lost to Virtus.pro.

When the spring season was getting closer, olofmeister’s high performance was noticed by Fnatic. He became a part of Fnatic on June 30, 2014.

Fnatic

By checking his successes, performance and other things, we can say that Fnatic was the highest point of olofmeister’s career.

His first big tournament that he attended was Gfinity G3, also his second tournament under Fnatic. The team completed their group in first place and eliminated mousesports in Quarterfinals and lost to Titan in Semifinals, thus ending the tournament as 3rd-4th place. Except that, olofmeister was a big part of Fnatic’s group matches and playoffs.

ESL One: Cologne 2014 was very close to being the first Major for olofmeister. The team advanced till the finals but lost against Ninjas in Pyjamas. Olofmeister needed to wait one more year to get the first Major of his career.

With the rising performance of olofmeister, Fnatic also started to improve their gameplay and won several tournaments like StarLadder StarSeries X, FACEIT League - Season 2, ESWC 2014, and Fragbite Masters Season 3. Thanks to his performance in 2014, olofmeister was ranked as the 12th best player by HLTV.

More was waiting for him in the next year. Olofmeister was chosen as the best player of 2015 by HLTV and he became MVP for a lot of tournaments, and also won his first Major with Fnatic.

Joining the ESL One: Katowice 2015, Fnatic put his quality to the game firstly in group stages, advancing without any loss. In quarterfinals, Fnatic matched with PENTA Sports and beat them 2-0. Olofmeister played with a 1.19 rating in this match. Virtus.pro was the rival of Fnatic in the Semifinals.

Once again, Fnatic won the Semifinals and attended the Grand Final. This time, they needed to beat NiP to get ESL One: Katowice 2015 and first Major for olofmeister. The Swedish player showed a very high-rated performance and was the key name of the win. With ESL One: Katowice 2015, olofmeister won his first Major, also being chosen as MVP of the tournament.

This win brought a chance to join the next Major ESL One: Cologne 2015 directly. Fnatic etched their name in CS:GO esports history by being the first team to win two Majors in a row. Fnatic played against Team EnVyUs in the Grand Final and they won the ESL ONE: Cologne 2015 by beating them 2-0.

These two Majors became the only Majors in olofmeister’s career. While more was waiting, an unlucky situation happened to olofmeister. He had to take a medical leave in April 2016 due to a wrist injury. His return to the roster was announced in June, as Olof was fit to play again. His 3-year-long tenure with Fnatic lasted until August 2017, after which he transferred to FaZe Clan.

FaZe Clan

The legend of Fnatic left the team in an unlucky situation but the good thing was he was still on the stage.

In April 2018, he took a personal sabbatical and was inactive for a month. Due to personal issues, he went inactive again in June and returned a month later. After playing for FaZe for almost two years, Olof took a five-month break in 2020 and returned as a substitute in October after Nikola "NiKo" Kovač left for G2 Esports.

Following FaZe's grand final at BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2021, Olof announced that he would be stepping down from the organisation's squad indefinitely. In June, Olof was reinstated as a permanent member of the active squad after Marcelo "coldzera" David resigned.
