Fnatic were in dominant form to win DreamHack Open 2021, easing through the group stage, strolling past MAD Lions and demolishing BIG in the final. This is the story of how Fnatic won the cut-throat battle of eight elite CS:GO teams.

The DreamHack Open November 2021, which started on 10 November, ended with the final between BIG and Fnatic, which was held on 14 November. The winner of the tournament, Fnatic, took home the prize money of $50,000 and also made their supporters happy.

BIG’s path to the final

The German team's group consisted of MAD Lions, MOUZ and Team GamerLegion. In group matches, they defeated Team GamerLegion 2-1 and also defeated MAD Lions 2-0. With these results, they advanced to the playoffs as group leader.

BIG faced Group B runner-up forZe in the semi-finals. Despite being down against forZe in a great match that ended 16-19 in Inferno, they won 2-1 in Bo3 by winning on the Dust II and Nuke. This is how they made it to the final to fight Fnatic.

Fnatic’s steady rise

While BIG was one of the teams invited to the tournament, Fnatic qualified for the tournament through their success at DreamHack Open November 2021: Closed Qualifier. Fnatic dominated Group B, defeating both Team Spirit and ENCE 2-0 to comfortably advance to the playoffs, i.e. the semi-finals, as group leader.

In the semi-finals, Fnatic defeated MAD Lions with competitive scores of 16-14 on Ancient and 16-12 on Inferno to advance to the grand final. Their opponent in the final was the German team BIG.

DreamHack Open November 2021 grand final

On the final day, 14 November, Fnatic first banned Dust2. The German team did not want to play Overpass. Fnatic chose Inferno as their first choice, while BIG opted for Vertigo. Fnatic chose Antique for the second option, BIG chose Nuke. Mirage took on the role of the deciding map.

Fnatic, who had a great performance on their chosen map, literally obliterated BIG and gained a big advantage with a score of 16-3. BIG played much better on Vertigo, but could not counter Fnatic's 16-12 score. The map that gave Fnatic the championship was Ancient. With a 16-10 win on Ancient, Fnatic took home $50,000 prize and 100 Pro Tour points.

In the match for third place, MAD Lions fell 0-1 against forZe, but then won two maps in a row, and got third place.

Although MAD Lions lost their first map against forZe for third place, they won the other two maps in a row and secured their position.
