What’s next? VCT 2022: EMEA Stage 1 Challengers Summary

Finally, VCT: EMEA has come to an end on March 27. The ending of the tournament showed us which teams will go for Masters and what we should expect for these teams. €200.000 in total has been divided among 12 teams.

Three teams in EMEA will represent their region in VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters. It is time to take a deeper look at the tournament and prominent teams.

Standings and Prize Pool

So far, €200,000 and VCT Circuit Points are spread among the 12 teams of EMEA teams. The first team of the tournament was FunPlus Phoenix.  The team has won €40,000 and advanced to the Masters. Second team advanced to the Masters was G2 Esports. They earned €30,000 from the prize pool. And finally, Fnatic became the third team in EMEA to go to the Masters by winning €22,000.

We will see BIG and SuperMassive Blaze in Relegation seed on April 1.

FunPlus Phoenix

There is no doubt that FunPlus Phoenix has performed amazingly in the VCT:EMEA. Their first success came in Group A. The team completed the group as the first team. Only losing against LDN UTD in groups, they won four matches in total.

The team skipped Upper Bracket Round 1 thanks to their standing in the group. Matching against Team Liquid, FunPlus Phoenix won 2-0. Their next rival in the Upper Bracket Final was Fnatic. The team once again won the match and moved to the Grand Final to play against G2 Esports. In the Bo5 match, FunPlus Phoenix beat G2 Esports by 3-1. This win made them the winner of VCT:EMEA and placed first on standing.

Recently, FunPlus Phoenix announced that they won’t be able to join Masters since they don’t have enough players on their roster for the live event.

G2 Esports

G2 Esports was the second team of VCT:EMEA. They have completed their group as the second team with 3 wins and 2 losses. They started with a loss in Upper Bracket Round 1 against Team Liquid and moved to the Losers’ Round 1. Matching against M3 Champions, G2 won 2-0.

They have played against Team Liquid once in the Losers' Round 2. This time, G2 was the winner and advanced to Losers’ Bracket Final. G2 beat Fnatic by 3-0 and were the rival of FunPlus Phoenix in the Grand Final, but they lost.


British team Fnatic placed in third on VCT: EMEA. They made a great start in the group stages by being the only undefeated team and winning all of the five matches. With this success, they directly joined the Playoffs from Upper Bracket Round 2.

They defeated M3 Champions and played against FunPlus Phoenix in the Upper Bracket Final. Losing by 2-0, they were matched with G2 in the Losers' Bracket Final. While G2 advanced to the Grand Finals, Fnatic completed VCT:EMEA as the third team.
