VCT 2022 Masters Copenhagen starts on July 10

The final step before Champions Istanbul, Masters Copenhagen, starts this weekend. 12 VALORANT teams will compete in Denmark to secure Circuit Points that will help them get to the Champions. Masters Copenhagen begins with the group stage, where eight of these teams will compete in two double elimination groups.

OpTic Gaming, Guild Esports, LOUD and KRÜ Esports will face off in Group A, while DRX, FunPlus Phoenix, Northeption and XERXIA will compete in Group B. The champions, Fnatic, XSET, Paper Rex and Leviatán, will start directly in the playoffs instead of participating in the group stage.

Masters Copenhagen Group Stage

Let’s have a look at the groups before Masters Copenhagen begins:

Group A

Group A features two of the best teams in the world: OpTic Gaming and Guild Esports. OpTic Gaming recently won Masters Reykjavík and also made it to Masters Copenhagen by finishing NA Challengers as runners-up again. Guild Esports, on the other hand, were one of the best teams in the EMEA region, although they ended up being outclassed by FPX and FNC. These two will be the favourites in Group A.

However, they will have strong opponents. After their successful Masters Reykjavík run, LOUD won the Brazil Challengers once again and will represent BR in Denmark. After their win in the LATAM vs BR playoffs against Ninjas in Pyjamas, Sergio Agüero's KRÜ Esports looks like the weakest link in the group. However, with their history in international tournaments, they fit the "dark horse" description perfectly.

Group B

A similar comment could be made about Group B. DRX and FunPlus Phoenix are by far the best teams in the group. DRX, the best VALORANT team in South Korea, has had a perfect 2022 except for the disappointment at Masters Reykjavík. They will try to achieve a better result this time. FPX missed the Masters Reykjavík after winning the EMEA Challengers due to visa problems and will be motivated to dominate the tournament after making it to the Masters for a second time.

ZETA DIVISION had an inspiring trip at Masters Reykjavík, but Japan will be represented by Northeption in Denmark. We will see if a team with two Korean players can repeat the same success. XERXIA missed the playoffs after losing to OpTic at Masters Reykjavík. They will try to win a second time in Copenhagen.

As mentioned earlier, Masters Copenhagen is the last step before the final tournament of the VCT 2022, Champions Istanbul. Most of these teams will also represent their regions at Champions.
