The 11 teams invited to IEM Brazil 2023

The ESL has revealed the 11 teams it has invited to compete at IEM Brazil, which is due to take place in Rio de Janeiro from April 17-23.

A total of 16 teams are due to compete at the tournament, who will be competing for their share of the $250,000 prize pool. While 11 teams have received direct invitations, the remaining 5 slots will be decided through regional qualifiers.

Of the 11 teams invited, six of those have earned their spot at this year's tournament through their partner status with the ESL - including the likes of FaZe Clan and Team Vitality. A further four teams have been invited due to their ESL global board ranking.

The final invitation meanwhile has gone to a spot dedicated for "local heroes," with Brazilian team FURIA Esports due to attend the tournament in April.

The 16 teams will be split into two double-elimination format groups. The best three teams from each group will advance to the playoffs - With top-ranked team moving straight to the semifinals, while the teams in second and third place will compete in the quarterfinals.

The teams participating in the playoffs will compete in a single-elimination bracket. All matches will be best of three - with the exception of the best of one opening rounds and best of five grand final.

The ultimate winner will receive $100,000 from the $250,000 prize pool, alongside an invitation to IEM Cologne, taking place from July 25 to August 6.

The invited teams include the likes of last year's BLAST Premier: Spring Finals champions NAVI, alongside BLAST Fall Finals 2022 winners Heroic and  Intel Extreme Masters champions FaZe Clan.

They're not the only teams with some serious bragging rights in their recent history - the Russian organisation Outsiders were crowned the winners of the IEM Rio Major, while Team Vitality emerged victorious at ESL Pro League Season 16.
