With the first DPC Major of the year behind us, the roster changes are coming in thick and fast - with Team Secret responding to their lackluster Tour 1 performance by parting ways with two key members of their team.
Baqyt “Zayac” Emiljanov and Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok leave Team Secret
Both Baqyt “Zayac” Emiljanov and Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok will be leaving Team Secret, with both players having spent less than a year with the team.
Despite their short stints with Team Secret, the duo have arguably been major contributors to Team's Secret success in the latter half of 2022. The pair joined Team Secret shortly before The International 2022 and were part of the team's miraculous run through the tournament.
Given that Team Secret only received their International tickets through the last-chance qualifiers in October 2022, their second-place result was incredible to witness. Secret fell short of lifting the International trophy following a 0-3 loss to Tundra Esports in the Grand Final.
Despite this incredible result, the team has struggled to live up to this reputation so far in the 2023 season. Team Secret failed to qualify for the Lima Major, having placed in a disappointing 8th place in the WEU tour. Not only did the team fail to qualify for the first Major since their spectacular International run, but they have also found themselves being demoted to Division II as a result of their recent struggles.
It seems that Team Secret are struggling with the absence of Michał "Nisha" Jankowski, who left Secret to join Team Liquid in December last year - and is hoping that a renewed roster will reverse their fortunes.
Team Secret's captain, Clement "Puppey" Ivanov, thanked both Zayac and Resolut1on for their time on the team, and for helping them to "achieve success in a year where it seemed impossible.
"We had some awesome experiences together and it was honestly quite a fun time," Puppey continued. "I am sad that things did not work out, but I hope everyone finds a way to another great path."
