Rising star of CIS: Gambit Esports

One of the first regions that comes to mind when you think of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Legendary teams like Natus Vincere, Virtus.pro, Gambit Esports have emerged from the CIS region.

Today, our main focus is on Gambit Esports, which has been on the road with the same roster since October 2020. Let's take a look at what Gambit Esports, one of the most successful teams in CS:GO, has done in recent times.

What is the background of the players on the Gambit Esports roster?

Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov

Let's start with the captain of the team. Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov is now 20 years old. Nafany, who started his professional career in CS:GO with FLuffy Gangsters, moved to the Vyalie Pitoni in a short time. 2019 was the year he was discovered and recruited to Gambit Youngsters. As of October 2020, he is one of the most valuable players of Gambit Esports' main roster. He achieved all the major successes in his career with Gambit Esports. He also had success in small tournaments with FLuffy Gangsters.

Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov

Next up is the team's older brother, Abai "Hobbit" Hasenov. The 27-year-old Kazakhstani player has been playing CS:GO professionally since 2014. He started his career with PARTY, and continued with Tengri. Hobbit, whose path crossed with Gambit Esports in 2016, was loaned to Gambit. After reaching an agreement with Gambit Esports, Hobbit became inactive after a while. He continued with HellRaisers. After playing on loan with Winstrike Team, Hobbit joined Gambit Youngsters in 2020. Finally, he has been finding success with Gambit Esports since October 2020.

What did Gambit Esports accomplish before bringing this roster together?

Gambit Esports, whose name we have heard frequently in CS:GO esports since 2016, was actually a successful team before signing with this roster too. However, we can say that this roster added success to their success.

The PGL Major Kraków 2017 title, which they won against Immortals in 2017, is still considered one of their greatest achievements. They were also champions at DreamHack Open Winter 2016. ROG Masters 2017 and DreamHack Open Austin 2017 titles are also some of their most important achievements before they started playing with the current roster.

What Gambit Esports has accomplished with its current roster?

With its current roster, Gambit Esports has had a lot of success and topped the HLTV rankings. However, NAVI, which has recently won all the tournaments it has participated in, does not give other teams a chance. Currently, Gambit Esports is chasing NAVI, along with teams like Vitality, G2, Heroic.

In BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2021, they knocked out the undefeatable NAVI and became champions. At the PGL Major Stockholm 2021, they lost to NAVI. Still their last major title is PGL Major Kraków 2017. They defeated Virtus.pro 3-1 at IEM Katowice 2021. This is one of their biggest successes with their current roster. They are also the champions of the IEM Summer 2021 by defeating OG 3-0 in the final. They also became champions at the V4 Future Sports Festival - Budapest 2021, held in Budapest last November, by defeating Entropiq, one of the top performing teams of recent times, 3-2 in a competitive Bo5 series.

While Gambit Esports is undoubtedly one of the best teams of recent times, like any other team, it is overshadowed by the flawless NAVI. To be known as the best team again, they either need to stop NAVI or NAVI should stop itself.
