Paris Major attracts third-highest viewership in CS:GO history

The BLAST.tv Paris Major, which concluded on May 21, attracted the third-highest viewership peak in CS:GO history.

BLAST.tv Paris Major viewership numbers

That's according to Esports Charts, who reports that the Grand Final match between Team Vitality and GamerLegion attracted a peak viewership of over 1.52 million. That makes that the final CS:GO Major attracted the third-highest viewership numbers in the game's history, coming in just behind PGL Major Antwerp 2022 at 2.11 million views and PGL Major Stockholm 2021 at 2.75 million views.

Other matches at the Major proved to be considerably less popular, however, with the Grand Final being the only match to break the 1 million peak viewership mark. This is perhaps due to the fact that the Major was host to a number of upsets, with some of the more popular teams being eliminated from the tournament early - Such as Ukrainian team Natus Vincere (NAVI), who failed to reach the Playoffs following their defeat at the hands of FaZe Clan. In fact, that was the event's second-most viewed match, with Esports Charts pointing out that four of the five most popular matches in CS:GO history involve the Ukrainian team.

Those relatively lower viewership numbers saw the Paris Major averaging 507,688 viewers, the lowest average in the top five most popular CS:GO events. For comparison, IEM Rio saw a lower peak viewership at 1.43 million, but a higher average viewership at 548,100.

It should be noted that these figures do not include those who viewed the Major on BLAST's viewing platform BLAST.tv, as the organiser has not released its viewership numbers for the Major.

Despite a low average viewership, the BLAST.tv Paris Major will hang onto its status as the third-highest viewed event in CS:GO history, as indeed it was the final CS:GO Major to ever be held. The next Major, the Copenhagen Major, is due to take place in 2024 and will see the upcoming Counter-Strike 2 taking the spotlight for the first time.
