This year's Mid-Season Invitational has only just got underway - and it's already breaking viewership records.

MSI 2023 viewership numbers
The tournament has just reached the Bracket Stage, as of the May 9 face-off between Gen.G Esports and G2 Esports in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals.
And despite the tournament still being in its early stages, this year's MSI is attracting huge viewership numbers. According to EsportsCharts, the match between Gen.G Esports and G2 attracted over 1.37 million viewers - breaking records from across MSI's history. Only previous MSI semifinals and grand finals have attracted higher viewership numbers than this.
Overall, the Bracket Stage debut match was the 6th-most viewed match in MSI history, ranking just below the 1.42 million viewers who watched the 2022 semifinal between T1 and G2, and the 1.49 million who tuned in to see the 2021 semifinal between DPlus and MAD Lions.
It should also be stated that this year's MSI is also directly competing with other esports, most notably including the ongoing BLAST.tv Paris Major over in CS:GO, which is taking place this month and has the high-profile status as the last-ever CS:GO Major, before the launch of Counter-Strike 2 later this year.
And so it's a promising sign for the rest of the tournament's viewership, as the competition ramps up as it works through the Bracket Stage. However this year's grand final shapes out, we could very likely see the viewership number exceeding the two million who tuned in to see the 2022 grand final between T1 and Royal Never Give Up.
