Masters Copenhagen: Playoffs begin today

The last games of the group stage are over and the playoffs will start at Masters Copenhagen. The favourites from the group stage, Guild Esports, FunPlus Phoenix, DRX and OpTic Gaming, have made it to the playoffs and will be among the favourites of winning it all. Let's take a look at what to expect in the Masters Copenhagen playoffs.

All three EMEA teams and all two North American teams have made the playoffs. Copenhagen is one of the best tournaments in terms of their success. KRÜ Esports, LOUD, Northeption and XERXIA could not surprise us and were eliminated from the tournament early. Now the eight best teams in the world will fight for the last trophy before Champions Istanbul.

Brief summary of the Masters Copenhagen Group Stage

We have already talked about the group stage, so you should check out this article again:

Group A was dominated by Guild Esports. The EMEA representatives defeated OpTic Gaming in their first match and then defeated KRÜ Esports in their last match. Although KRÜ lost the game in overtime, Guild looked confident throughout the series and entered the playoffs.

OpTic Gaming followed Guild Esports after winning the decider match. Having lost their first game against Guild, it started very poorly for OpTic, but they were able to take down LOUD and KRÜ to enter the playoffs. Although their start was a bit shaky, they are still one of the favourites to win Masters Copenhagen.

Group B was owned by the Korean team DRX, who secured their ticket to the playoffs with wins over Japanese team Northeption and EMEA's FunPlus Phoenix. DRX came to Copenhagen with high hopes and showcased their strength before facing the big names. They are definitely among the favourites for the playoffs.

FPX followed DRX into the playoffs as expected. After a 2-1 victory against XERXIA, they were beaten by DRX in the final. However, two quick wins against Northeption last night helped them reach the playoffs with ease. They will now try to get revenge on Fnatic and stay in the upper bracket of the playoffs.

Masters Copenhagen playoffs

Paper Rex (2.10) vs Guild Esports (1.65) - 17:00 CEST, July 14

The playoffs begin with the match between Paper Rex and Guild Esports. After winning the APAC Challengers, Paper Rex enters the tournament as a strong contender for the championship, but they may not be as strong as Guild Esports, who dominated the EMEA scene for a while.

Fnatic (1.35) vs FunPlus Phoenix (2.90) - 20:00 CEST, July 14

The rematch of the EMEA Challengers final is between Fnatic and FPX, with Fnatic once again being the favourite. The good news for FPX is that they can field SUYGETSU instead of the stand-in from Alliance, SEIDER. Although their chances are slim, a win is not impossible.

Leviatán (5.00) vs DRX (1.13) - 17:00 CEST, July 15

Leviatán's first international experience starts with a match against DRX, the best from South Korea. DRX is clearly the favourite here, but you should keep in mind that we do not know much about their opponents.

XSET (2.70) vs OpTic Gaming (1.40) - 20:00 CEST, July 15

Another rematch: XSET and OpTic will repeat the NA Challengers final. XSET won the NA Challengers against OpTic with the latter starting badly at Masters Copenhagen, but considering the potential of both teams, OpTic could still win this match with ease. After all, they are the champions of Masters Reykjavík.
