LCK 2022 Spring Playoffs update: Semifinals are set

After two individually great series, it is time for the semifinals at LCK 2022 Spring Playoffs. On one side, DWG KIA faced Fredit BRION, and on the other, DRX faced Kwangdong Freecs. One of the two teams that tailed T1 and Gen.G throughout the regular season failed to advance to the semifinals though.

The LCK 2022 Spring Playoffs quarterfinals were played this week, and while DWG KIA easily outclassed Fredit BRION with a 3-0 win, DRX struggled to show up against Kwangdong Freecs and in the end, they were defeated 3-2. Find a recap of the matches and the schedule for the semifinals below.

LCK 2022 Spring Playoffs quarterfinals

The matches started with DWG KIA vs Fredit BRION. The 2020 Worlds champions replaced their bot lane this season, and although they weren’t as perfect as they were before, they were clearly the third-best team in the league. Fredit BRION however did show some good performances this year, but they couldn’t match DK, or T1 and GEN for sure.

In the first game, DWG KIA started fast. The game itself was not fast, but DWG KIA had things in control. deokdam played a 5-0-8 Zeri that led his team to victory, while ShowMaker, Canyon and Burdol also had a very easy one. The story in the following game was no different and it got easier and easier.

deokdam once again played an immensely fed bot laner, 10-3-10 Ziggs, while ShowMaker was playing a Jayce that ended up 7-2-13. In 33 minutes, DK won 24-8. Next one, it took 27 minutes before the 8-0-7 Camille and 7-1-3 Viego ended the series, and Fredit BRION’s first playoff run ended prematurely.

We moved on to DRX vs Kwangdong Freecs then. DRX was definitely a better team during the regular season and KDF had a very poor start, however, they were able to get themselves back together and make the playoffs.

Freecs started with a win, with 21-6 in 38 minutes. Ellim and FATE led their team to victory, while Teddy’s Miss Fortune and Kiin’s Ornn were incredible weapons for team fights. Following that, DRX struck back with a 40 minutes long victory, but it wasn’t as convincing as KDF’s.

Another stomp from Freecs followed that, with Teddy’s 7-0-2 Jinx being literally unstoppable. A candidate for being one of the best series recently, DRX once again found a win where Kiin played an Urgot that backfired.

In the last game, Kwangdong Freecs played superbly until they let Pyosik steal the Baron. Being able to come back, DRX took down two inhibitor turrets. Unfortunately for them, Teddy stole the Infernal Dragon with his ultimate, without any vision. After that, one bad team fight decision was enough for DRX to get dismantled and KDF to end the series 3-2.

LCK 2022 Spring Playoffs semifinals schedule

Check out the schedule for the weekend below:

Saturday, March 26
T1 vs Kwangdong Freecs - 09:00 CET

Sunday, March 27
Gen.G vs DWG KIA - 10:00 CET

T1 are definitely the favourite against Kwangdong Freecs, but KDF does have their weapons. They were able to defeat DRX in a series where they performed very well. T1 is one of the best teams in the world, so the challenge is tough, but Teddy and Kiin might lead their team to an upset that would be unforgettable. Still, to be realistic, T1 might have an easy 3-0 here, and FATE being tested positive for Covid-19 isn’t helping KDF’s chances.

Gen.G vs DWG KIA, however, will be a much closer match. Gen.G is the second best team in the LCK for sure, but with their strong performance in the quarterfinals, DK reminded everyone that they are no joke. The titans, Chovy and ShowMaker, will fight to be the second team in the grand finals, and in any case, the match is going to be an awesome one.
