K0nfig will play for Heroic at the BLAST Premier World Final

Heroic has announced that Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke, formerly of Astralis, will be playing for the team as a stand-in at the BLAST Premier World Final.

The team took to Twitter to announce that the 25 year old player would be playing at the World Final as a stand-in for Martin “stavn” Lund. Heroic says that it is letting stavn take some rest after a long year, and to start early preparations for the 2023 season.

"We believe Kristian is the best possible replacement when exploring our options," said Heroic in a following tweet. "Despite not having stavn with us for the World Final, we hope to continue our good form and Kristian is a great player that is hungry to show the world he has a place in the absolute top of CS:GO."

K0nfig has been without a team since October of this year, after he fractured his ankle during a fight with a fight with a nightclub promoter in Malta, where his then-team Astralis were staying for ESL Pro League Season 16.

Due to this controversy, Astralis quickly announced that they had reached a mutual agreement with the player to cancel his contract, and k0nfig hasn't been seen in the CS:GO scene since.

The player later expressed regret for his involvement in the incident, saying that he had been “in a really deep dark place” and required multiple surgeries on his ankle.

"Actions have consequences and I fully accept responsibility for mine," said k0nfig in a Twitlonger post. "Now and in the future. To all of you out there, here's the lesson which I've come to learn the hard way. Turn the other cheek if you can. Walk away. Violence solves nothing. It is never worth it!"

Despite being dropped by Astralis, k0nfig remained committed to returning to professional CS:GO play, saying that this was "nowhere near the end" and that he was "not going anywhere."

True to his word, k0nfig will now be playing as a stand-in for Heroic, who are heading to Abu Dhabi as the champions of the BLAST Premier Fall Finals last month.

All eyes will be on Heroic to see if they can repeat their success at the World Final - and if k0nfig can redeem his reputation following the scandal in Malta.
