Evil Geniuses promotes wiz

Jerric "wiz" Jiang, formerly of EG Black, has been promoted to Evil Geniuses ahead of the upcoming BLAST Premier Spring Groups.

wiz joins Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses announced the promotion via Twitter, revealing that wiz will be joining the team as their new AWPer.

The team's new AWPer joins after a promising performance with Evil Geniuses Black - he has mostly stayed under the radar until now, but has been steadily improving as a player since his debut in 2018.

As well as Evil Geniuses, Black, wiz's previous teams include the likes of Carpe Diem and RBG Esports. His appointment to Evil Geniuses is by far the most high-profile moment of his career so far, despite the team's troubles in recent years.

The promotion comes just weeks after the team's previous AWPer, Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov, was dropped from the main team and ultimately parted ways with the organisation. It is not currently clear where CeRq will be heading to next, now that he has been replaced by wiz.

It's just the latest in a series of changes over at Evil Geniuses, as the organisation seeks to restructure its roster after a difficult 2022, when they consistently disappointed fans. The changes actually began midway through last year, with the August acquisition of Sanzhar "neaLaN" Iskhakov and promotion of Jadan "HexT" Postma, among other moves.

While those changes seemed to make some impact, Evil Geniuses still struggled in the latter half of 2022 - They bombed out of the IEM Rio Major with a 20th-22nd placement, and finished the year in 20th-21st place on the BLAST Premier World Leaderboard.

As such, Evil Geniuses has opened this year by making some further alterations, both on the team and behind the scenes. The organisation parted ways with manager Matthew "Sunshine" Speidel earlier this month, before dropping CeRq from the roster.

The Evil Geniuses lineup now consists of Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte, Timothy "autimatic" Ta, Jadan "HexT" Postma, Sanzhar "neaLaN" Iskhakov, Jerric "wiz" Jiang and Daniel "Vorborg" Vorborg.

We won't have long to wait until we can see wiz in action alongside his new Evil Geniuses teammates - BLAST Premier Spring Groups is due to begin on January 19, running until January 29.
