Evil Geniuses parts ways with coaches Freeze and H4xDefender

Evil Geniuses' promised overhaul of its LCS team has begun, with the organisation parting ways with two of its coaches.

Aleš “Freeze” Kněžínek and Albert “H4xDefender” Ong leave Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses has taken to Twitter to announce that it is parting ways with both its head coach Aleš "Freeze" Kněžínek as well as its assistant coach Albert “H4xDefender” Ong. The latter of whom had only just joined the organisation, having signed up at the start of the 2023 Spring Split.

The organisation bid a fond farewell to Freeze, noting in the tweet: "From every LCS team huddle and moment on the big stage to all of the scrims in between, thank you for your time at EG."

For his part, Freeze stated that he was "really excited to fulfil my 2 year contract," but that ""sometimes journey stops earlier than it is meant to be. Specific circumstances can always happen in orgs. Happy about relationships I created while working for EG."

Freeze joined Evil Geniuses as their head coach in November 2022, so his two-year contract has been cut remarkably short. Prior to Evil Geniuses, Freeze spent time coaching for 100 Thieves, after he ended his career as a botlaner for the likes of MAD Lions.

Prior to joining Evil Geniuses in January this year, H4xDefender had been working as an assistant coach for both Team Liquid and Team Liquid Academy (now known as Team Liquid Challengers) since December 2020.

The two departures are expected to just be the beginning of Evil Geniuses' roster changes. The organisation teased an upcoming roster change earlier this week, following a relatively disappointing 2023 run, after they finished LCS Spring 2023 in fourth place.

While that hardly seems like a terrible result for the team, they previously placed in first place in LCS Spring 2022, and ranked in a respectable 3rd-4th place at the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.

As such, the organisation promised roster changes to "fully align" with its commitment to "competitive performance and talent development." While Evil Geniuses didn't share any further information, rumours have begun to circulate that the organisation is preparing to part ways with almost all of its current lineup.
