DPC team spotlight: Thunder Awaken

With the DPC 2023 season having started in full force, we thought it was only right to take a look at our very own partner team, Thunder Awaken.

Thunder Awaken roster and results

And while we're certainly biased, it's hard to argue against the fact that the team showed a phenomenal performance throughout 2022, and is therefore coming into the 2023 season with some high expectations on their shoulders.

Just a cursory glance at the team's successes last year underlines just what we mean here. Thunder Awaken is heading into 2023 after having won every single tour last year - and that's far from their only achievement in 2022.

They started off 2022 strong, not only coming third in the Tour 1 Regional Final, but were crowned the champions of BTS Pro Series Season 10: Americas, after defeating 4 Zoomers in the grand final.

But we're still not done listing the team's achievements last year - in fact, we've arguably saved the best for last. Thunder Awaken set a new record for the South American Dota 2 scene when they not only made it through to The International 2022, but secured an incredible 5th-6th place. That's the highest ranking for a South American team in Dota 2 history, beating the previous record of Infamous' 7th-8th placement at The International 2019.

And the team will certainly be keen to build upon its past successes, as it heads into 2023 with an all-new roster. The Thunder Awakens lineup consists of Aliaksei "Smiling Knight" Svirydau, Ricardo "Alone" Fernandez, Mario "LittleBoy" Valdivia, Miguel "Michael-" Gomez and Cristian "Accel" Quispe.

The new roster is already showing their worth too - Their debut match for the 2023 season took place yesterday (January 10), in a match against Ravens. They've started off the new season on a strong footing, having claimed a decisive 2-0 victory straight out of the gate.

Keyd Stars (2.70) vs Thunder Awaken (1.40)

There's not long to wait before we see them in action again too. Thunder Awaken is due to go up against Keyd Stars at 8:00 PM GMT on January 15 - and you can watch that match at the link above. There's clearly some incredible momentum behind the team, so expectations are high for their performance later this week.
