Counter-Strike 1.6 legend markeloff to come out of retirement

Rumours are circulating that Jeghor "markeloff" Markelov, the Ukrainian AWPer that made a name for himself back in the Counter-Strike: 1.6 days could be coming out of retirement.

Counter-Strike 1.6 player Jeghor "markeloff" Markelov comes out of retirement

That's according to his former Natus Vincere (NAVI) teammate Ioann “Edward” Sukhariev, who hinted that markeloff could be due to make a return in the near future.

The comments were made during one of Edward's recent Twitch steams, in which a fan asked if he has kept in touch with markeloff - prompting Edward to tease his followers with this tidbit of information.

“It seems you will all see him soon,” Edward said (as translated by Escore News). “There’s something interesting coming with markeloff, some news.”

During his Counter-Strike 1.6 days, markeloff was considered one of the world's best players. His career started back in 2008 with Amazing Gaming, but he is best remembered for his time on NAVI's lineup, where he helped carry the team to victory at the likes of Intel Extreme Masters IV & V, DreamHack Winter 2010, and IEM VI Global Challenge Kyiv.

He switched to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive upon the game's release in 2012, but unfortunately, he could not replicate his Counter-Strike 1.6 successes. The player spent time with the likes of NAVI, HellRaisers, and finally Flipsid3 Tactics - the latter of which saw possibly the highlight of his CS:GO career, when he and his team emerged victorious at DreamHack Open Leipzig 2017.

Still, his record hardly matched his incredible performance playing Counter-Strike 1.6, and markeloff left the Flipsid3 lineup in 2018 and has made just a handful of public appearances since then.

Given that markeloff is now 35 years old, it's unlikely that he will be returning as a professional player again. However, given both his wealth of experience and public profile, it is possible that he'll be looking to return in another capacity - potentially as a team coach or even as a content creator.
